I think we can all agree 2020 has been a year to remember. And not for the best of reasons. And as December dawns, I keep hearing ‘I can’t wait for this year to be over’. Now I certainly understand the sentiment but here’s the sad truth – a new year does not equal a happier life.

So what will 2021 bring? The simple answer is whatever we choose to create. After all, our old problems, insecurities and worries will still be there unless to change something. Because we are the ones that control our destiny. And the good news is the sooner we take responsibility for that, the sooner we can find happiness and fulfilment.

Get clear on what you want 2021 to bring

You can’t control the end of a pandemic, but you can control how you respond to circumstances and what you focus your energy on.

So start by getting clear on what exactly it is that you want 2021 to bring because having a clear vision provides a clear direction. Consider all the areas of your life including:

  • Career
  • Health
  • Romance
  • Family & friends
  • Wealth
  • Spirituality
  • Contribution
  • Fun & recreation

Start taking action

Once you know what you’re working towards the next step is committing to taking action. Keep in mind you do not have to have all the steps figured out and this is not about big bold actions. Instead, it’s about focused, small, consistent steps that are leading in the direction of change you want.

In essence, this is means creating support and effective habits and continuously improving. Because it’s the systems that habits provide that distinguishes people who get results from those that don’t.

Eat ‘NO’ for breakfast

Take a leaf out of Kamila Harris’ book and eat ‘no’ for breakfast.

In other words, be willing to challenge, to take risks and to fight for the change you want. This means being your own #1 advocate and fighting for your dreams rather than giving in to your fears.

Because you are worthy of your dreams and you are capable beyond your own belief. So decide to make 2021 your year!
