how to change your life

A few years ago I decided I wanted to try something new in my career and after 15 years in property, and I retrained as a career and life coach. Today, I run a successful coaching practice 2 days a week, whilst also working in the property sector part-time. The professional diversity I’ve created has allowed me to have the best of both worlds and renewed my passion for my career. It has also transformed my sense of self-worth, my work-life balance and my confidence. But as with all great things, this didn’t happen overnight. Having clear personal goals and vision has been the cornerstone of creating my own life transformation. And below I’ll share how you can do the same. Be warned, there’s good news and bad news…

Anything is possible if you have clear personal goals

I am true believe that you can change your life in any way you want, but the key is to make a clear choice on what it is you are trying to achieve.

In the example above I explained how I decided to retrain and branch out professionally so I could have my own business working as a coach, and also maintain a corporate career in the property sector.

So when you are working out what it is you truly want, start by thinking big. Know what your life vision is, how you want to identify yourself and what would make you happy.

From there narrow your ideas down. Get specific on what key steps are that you must take in order to make your big vision a reality. These are the non-negotiable steps, the things that are essential. These are your personal goals and they are fundamental to creating meaningful and deliberate change in your life.

Once your personal goal are clear, you can then identify the smaller actions and habits that will allow you to achieve your goals and create mastery and skill you need to be successful.

An example in my case was to become qualified as a coach and the steps included enrolling, assessment deadlines and logging coaching hours.

There are no shortcuts

So here’s the bad news – there are no short cuts when it comes to lasting life transformation. If you want the changes in your life to stick, you need to be committed to doing the work and establishing a framework to support your desired life.

Life transformation is simple, but it’s not easy.

You need to want the change in your life, more than you want to remain the same.

Focus on your personal goals, committed to the process of change and willing to take responsibility for your choices.

This means showing up day after day. It means being willing to do the hard work necessary to achieve your goals and make your dreams a reality.

Key things for any sustainable life transformation

Now for the good news, if you are truly committed, you can change your life.

And beyond having clarity on your personal goals, here are some other key things that will enable your transformation.

Visualisation is a powerful tool

Used by elite athletes and successful business people alike, visualisation is linked to achievement. Jack Canfield’s guide is a great resource if you’re new to this process.

Foster a growth mindset

A growth mindset is essential to any sustained success. It allows you to continuously look for ways to improve and identifying opportunities (rather than problems).

Establish a support system

Find people who will support your growth and vision. They should hold you accountable, offer guidance and bolster your confidence when you need it. Think carefully about who these people are because not everyone in your life will support your goals or be comfortable with you changing. Identify the right person or people and be sure to take them on the journey with you and check in at regular, predetermined periods so you remain accountable and in action.

Get out of your own way and change your life now!

If you are longing for change in your life, you need to stop allowing self-doubt and fear get in your way.

Instead, you need to focus on what you want and why it’s important, establish the key goals you need to make your life transformation a reality and be 100% committed to your change and growth.

Start by setting up your support framework and take daily, consistent actions to create your own life transformation. And remember, you are the only person who can change your life. So stop waiting for tomorrow and get clear on what you want right now!
